It’s All About the Plaid! Oh, and the Leopard-print Hatbox!
So Much Fun!
We had such a great time with this photo shoot.
It all started with the skirt — a lovely grey and black plaid accordion-pleated little number from the 1970s. Back in the day, the skirt would have been worn with a high-neck white Victorian blouse, blazer or black poor-boy and black and white saddle shoes or black pilgrim loafers.
And, both of those looks are great!
But I wanted a modern twist for a vintage skirt.
So, I asked Oakley if she’d “funk-it-up.”
“Hmmm,” she thought a minute, and took a quick glance over the costume shop.
That’s all it took. She grabbed her grey T-shirt, folded it under to make a crop and slipped on her chunky black pumps. Then grabbed the black Spanish style flat-crown hat we’d used for our western glam shoot and headed out the door.
We knew exactly where we were headed because she’d already scoped out an area nearby to find a building that would make a great backdrop. It’s a sandwich shop that had already closed for the noon lunch hour, so the parking lot was empty.
And that’s what made this shoot so great — Oakley skipping across the cement blocks. AND, let’s not forget the hatbox. It was just a last-minute prop I grabbed out of my car so she’d have something to swing around. I love how a plan comes together.
