FLAPPERS TO FRINGE VINTAGE

today’s Tip

What I Learned Today:

May 9, 2024

That vintage shoulder pads are made of cardboard.

Meaning, they disintegrate when soaked in water. So, now, though my 1950s swingy maize-colored wool jacket cleaned up great after several soapy soaking baths, I now must replace the shoulder pads. And, surprise, surprise, in all my treasure trove of sewing stuff, I do not have the right size pads. Which means, today’s flea-market mission is to find “vintage shoulder pads,” or I will be making my own. Never the less. Now, I know.

Here are the shoulder pads. You can see (at top) that the padding turned into hard pieces of something that resembles cardboard. They were encased in these flannel-like pockets.
