The Eugenie Suit

Named for The Eugenie hat — which is a small sized hat, with or without brim, that is tilted to one side and worn low on the brow, sometimes even over an eye. The hat style for the 1930s was created by costume designer Adrian for the film, Romance, starring Greta Garbo, for which he was said to have been inspired by a hat worn in the late 1800s by the French Empress Eugenie de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III.

As for The Outfit — it came together so beautifully and shows the lines of the 1930s — the fitted blazer and calf-length tulip skirt. And if you look closely at the full size shots, you’ll see the jacket even has inside straps so it won’t slip off when draped over the shoulders. I’ve worn the skirt, gloves and shoes for several performances and the purse is one I typically carry when I’m wearing a vintage gown. It just works so great, with its satin wrist strap and fits easily, a compact, lipstick, money, hanky and comb. All the necessities.

TAKE A LOOK at the Video and you’ll see how lovely this suit represents the silhouette of the Thirties, with its fitted waistline and tulip skirt.
